Please see the latest update on Entergy’s proactive, accelerated effort to improve utility infrastructure in the 500-800 blocks of Bourbon Street ahead of Phase II of the city’s French Quarter Infrastructure Improvements Project.
In preparation for Tropical Storm Gordon and any impacts on the area, Entergy electric and gas crews will suspend work on the Bourbon Street project until the storm has passed and it is safe to return. All Entergy work areas have been safely secured for pedestrian and vehicular traffic.
Community Meetings
The next bi-weekly community meeting will be held on Thursday, September 6th at 10 a.m. on the corner of Bourbon and St Louis. NOTE: In the event of rain, we will meet at the Bourbon Orleans.
Traffic Status
- The following intersections will have intermittent closures from 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. for 1-2 days each. The current order of the work is provided below but it may be subject to changes.
- 1st -Bourbon/St Louis,
- 2nd – Bourbon/Toulouse
- 3rd – Bourbon/St Peter. The 600 block of Bourbon will be closed to thru traffic with this intersection. Entergy personnel will continue to work with delivery drivers who need to make deliveries, trash pickup and access to parking garages.
All Blocks
- Work will include daily road closures between 8:00 a.m. and 3 p.m.
- Entergy crews will continue to work with providing access to the streets for parking garage access, deliveries, and local traffic. Traffic lanes will be fully open and accessible during non-working hours.
- Intermittent street intersection closures consisting of 1-2 days per intersection will begin on Tuesday, September 4th. One intersection at a time will be closed for this short project. The project will consist of street excavations to abandon gas lines. Intersections include: Bourbon/St Louis, Bourbon/Toulouse, Bourbon/St Peter. Police detail will be available to manage traffic issues.
500 Block of Bourbon
- Electric line crews are nearing completion with the preparation work that will allow continued construction/excavation crew work in this block.
- Entergy Gas will be excavating in the parking lane on the river side so that gas facilities can be replaced. Water barricades have been established for the safety of crews and the public.
- Entergy personnel will work with delivery drivers who need to make deliveries, trash pickup and access to parking garages.
- Work is expected to be completed in this block by September 17th.
- Police detail will be available to manage traffic issues.
- Beginning September 4th, expect periodic road closures between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. in the 500 block for construction activity Monday through Wednesday.
600 Block of Bourbon
- The current work is expected to be completed in this block by September 17th.
- Parking lanes will be unavailable while work is being done to underground facilities in the 600 block of Bourbon Street as outlined below.
- Water barricades from Toulouse towards St. Peter were established on the river side on May 25th.
- Parking lanes on the 600 block of Bourbon will be closed on the river side in order to allow construction activity to safely proceed and to allow traffic to flow on the lake side after work hours and during time periods where the block is not closed due to construction activity.
- Entergy personnel will work with delivery drivers who need to make deliveries, trash pickup and access to parking garages.
- Police detail will be at the corner of Toulouse to manage traffic issues.
- Expect road closures between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. in the 600 block for construction activity.
