French Quarter Infrastructure Improvement Project Status Update: October 5, 2018
The City of New Orleans, Department of Public Works and Sewerage & Water Board began a full reconstruction project on Bourbon Street from St. Louis to Dumaine streets (500-800 blocks) on September 17, 2018. Work will occur sequentially from the 500 – 800 blocks, with ONLY one block fenced off at a time throughout construction. All businesses along this corridor will remain open and accessible throughout construction. The $9.5 million cost-shared project, which is anticipated to run through June 2019, was designed by Mott McDonald, LLC and will be constructed by Hard Rock Construction, LLC. Project partners include Entergy Electric, Entergy Gas, Cox Communications and AT&T.
Traffic Status
500 Block and St. Louis Intersection Remain Closed
Hard Rock Construction, LLC has completed installing the fence and temporary lighting in the 500 block of Bourbon Street. River bound traffic has been re-routed from the 500 block of Bourbon St. between St. Louis and Toulouse streets. The St. Louis intersection is also closed for approximately three more weeks so that crews can complete the installation of a syphon and other utilities. The 400 block of Bourbon and 700/800 blocks of St. Louis streets are closed to through traffic; flaggers are on site at St. Louis and Royal and St. Louis and Dauphine while crews are working, but they may move from their positions to direct construction deliveries as needed.
Entergy Electric & Gas
Entergy Gas will continue working in the 700 block from St. Peter to Orleans. Entergy Electric will continue construction in the 700 block of Bourbon St between St Peter and St. Ann. There will be no intersections closed; however, there will be temporary street closures of Bourbon in the 700 block between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm Monday through Friday. As usual Entergy will accommodate the public, businesses, and deliveries to the best of their ability.
Future Intersection Closure – Toulouse and Bourbon streets
Hard Rock Construction will close the intersection of Toulouse and Bourbon streets on or around October 22 so that crews can complete the installation of utilities. This intersection will not close until the intersection of St. Louis and Bourbon streets have reopened to vehicular traffic.
NEW LOCATION – Attend our “Conversation on the Corner”
The next Phase 2 bi-weekly community status meeting will take place on Tuesday, October 9, at 10:30 a.m. at the Four Points Sheraton French Quarter, 541 Bourbon Street, New Orleans, LA 70130, Board Room.
Upcoming Week Work Plan
- Saturday, Oct. 6 (Weather Permitting): Crews will continue water line work in the 500 block roadway and installation of the syphon in the St. Louis intersection.
- Sunday, Oct. 7 (Weather Permitting): Crews will continue water line work in the 500 block roadway. Crews will be replacing the fire hydrants just off of Bourbon Street on St. Louis. PLEASE NOTE: This activity (replacement of the fire hydrants) will cause a disruption of service for residents and business on St. Louis between Dauphine and Royal as well as 500, 501 and 503 Bourbon Street.
- Monday, Oct. 8 – Friday, Oct. 12 (Weather Permitting): Crews will continue water line work in the 500 block roadway, and work on the syphon in the St. Louis intersection. Crews will also be lining the sewer main the 500, 700 and 800 blocks. Crews will also repair the damaged bollards in the 400 block of Bourbon Street.

AT&T Service Outage Reporting Process
To ensure service restoration and proper credit, AT&T residential customers MUST report problems to 1-800-288-2020. Business customers MUST report problems to 1-877-438-0041. After reporting problems to AT&T, customers may also send e-mail to roadwork@nola.gov to help expedite the process.
Garbage Corrals
Garbage must be placed in appropriate corrals at the end of each intersecting block (St. Louis, Toulouse, etc.) between 4 a.m. to 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Please refrain from leaving garbage cans on the Bourbon St. sidewalk as we are required to maintain pedestrian access.
